1. Feature & detail

A curve that defines the bathroom

A backrest raised to 74 cm, a line that gently descends to 54 cm on the opposite edge, a discreet base: ALICE I does not merely occupy the room, it gives it a profile. You discover it upon entering, from the side, and it is this asymmetry that turns a bathroom into a suite.

It is cast in MINERALICAST, a mineral stone molded in one piece in our manufacturer's European workshop, then finished by hand. 128 kg of solid material, a wall that does not flex, a tub that does not resonate when filled. This is not a dressed acrylic bathtub: it is a piece of stone.

The essentials before ordering

  • 179 cm long, 75 cm wide, 74 cm at the backrest. The edge you enter by, the low side, is 54 cm from the floor: a comfortable step.
  • Water depth of 25 cm for 122 litres (fill level at two-thirds of a tub 37.5 cm deep): this is the dimension that determines whether your shoulders are covered when you lean back against the backrest.
  • Clearances: 60 cm on the side you enter from, 20 cm minimum on the other three sides. Useful floor space: approximately 2.20 × 1.55 m.
  • 250 kg load capacity, or approximately 186 kg/m² over its footprint. Concrete slab: no issue. Wooden floor or upper floor: read "Weight and flooring" below.
  • The waste is to be recessed into the floor: ALICE I leaves no free height under the tub. A recess must be provided (see "For your plumber"). If you cannot cut into the floor, look at PIA, WIKA or ELLIPSE, which connect without drilling.
  • Supplied with its chrome pop-up waste and its trap. Wall-mounted or freestanding taps to be chosen separately; we offer matching models.
  • Cast to order in Europe, delivered within 4 to 6 weeks, on a pallet, by a lift-gate truck, by appointment. Free delivery in metropolitan France.

MINERALICAST: the presence of stone

MINERALICAST is a synthetic mineral stone: natural mineral charges bonded with resin, cast in one piece in a mold, then covered with a smooth, non-porous surface layer, polished by hand. It provides the density, stability and quietness of stone, with a surface that is soft to the touch and shapes that no ceramic allows, such as this backrest that rises to 74 cm in one piece.

  • A single piece. No double shell, no glued reinforcement, no hidden frame: the wall is solid throughout its entire thickness.
  • Firm under support. You sit on the edge, you lean back: nothing moves, nothing creaks.
  • Quiet. Filling is muffled, without the resonance of an acrylic shell.
  • Warm to the touch. No cold shock from enameled cast iron or ceramic when the skin touches the wall.
  • Repairable. A superficial scratch can be sanded and polished on site, without dismantling the bathtub. A scratch on ceramic is permanent.

Let's be honest about one point: no material keeps a bath hot "for hours". In a twenty-minute bath, the heat escapes mainly through the surface of the water, not through the wall. Our advice, because a mineral shell takes its share of heat when filled: run the water two degrees above the desired temperature.

Why mineral stone rather than acrylic or ceramic?

Criterion Acrylic Ceramic MINERALICAST
Appearance of the material Glossy, plastic Glossy enamel Mineral, deep
Density under the hand Light shell (25 to 45 kg) Dense Solid material (128 kg)
Sound when filling Resonates Matte Muffled
Edge under support May flex Firm Firm
Manufacturing Double shell One piece One cast piece
Superficial scratch Can be polished Permanent Can be polished on site
Thermal shock Partial May crack Resistant
Freedom of shape Yes Limited Yes

Installation: the 20 cm that changes everything

The first regret of freestanding bathtub owners is not the price, it is not being able to clean behind it. Our rule, identical for all our bathtubs: 60 cm on the side you enter from, 20 cm minimum on the other three sides. Twenty centimeters is the width of an arm passing a mop.

For ALICE I, one more point: its profile is asymmetrical. Decide in advance which side the high backrest will be on, because that is what you see when entering, and the waste, offset towards the low side (38.6 cm from the low end), fixes the path of the trap. If you hesitate, send us a plan or a photo of the room: we will tell you which way to place it.

Pressed against the wall, a freestanding bathtub becomes impossible to maintain and loses what justifies its shape. If your room does not offer this clearance, tell us before ordering: we prefer to guide you towards another model than to sell you a regret.

Weight and flooring

128 kg empty, 122 litres of water: 250 kg load capacity, calculated over a footprint of approximately 1.34 m², or ≈ 186 kg/m². Useful rule: the water and the occupant together weigh approximately the capacity of the tub, since the bather displaces their own volume of water.

On a concrete slab, there is no issue. On a wooden floor, the regulatory live load of a dwelling is 150 kg/m² (NF EN 1991-1-1): this is not a prohibition, it is a verification threshold. Have a professional check if any of these cases apply: building over fifty years old, beams of unknown section, span greater than 4 m, or bathtub placed parallel to the beams.

For your plumber

Olverton was founded by a plumber. Here is what your tradesman needs to know, without having to call us:

  • Waste: Ø 53 mm waste, offset towards the low end (axis at 386 mm from the low edge, in the axis of the width). Trap outlet supplied in Ø 50 mm.
  • Recessed trap: the base of ALICE I rests on the floor on a base of 1245 × 528 mm without a void. The supplied trap (chrome pop-up, ref. SBK, 96 mm total height) must therefore be housed in a floor recess, connected to the waste before the installation of the flooring. On a new screed, it is a detail to anticipate; on finished flooring, it must be opened.
  • Overflow: none. The inner wall remains smooth; you monitor the filling.
  • Taps: no drilling in the shell. Wall-mounted or freestanding. Spout to be provided above 54 cm (low edge), with sufficient reach to pass the width of the edge.
  • Installation: the bathtub arrives finished. We level it on its base, connect it, and that's it. No skirt, no masonry, no wall mounting.
  • Handling: 128 kg, plan for three people. Check the passage dimensions before delivery: door, hallway, stairs, elevator.
  • Manufacturing tolerances: length ± 10 mm, width ± 5 mm, height ± 5 mm. Never cast the trap recess before receiving the piece.

The manufacturer's dimensioned technical sheet is sent upon request to support@olverton.com.

Maintenance: the six products to never use

To ban: bleach, descalers, white vinegar, household alcohol, scouring creams, scouring sponges. These are the ones you find under every sink, and they are the ones that attack the surface layer irreversibly. Damage caused by any of them is not covered by the warranty.

What you need: a neutral soap, a microfiber cloth, warm water, and a rinse after an oil or salt bath. For a superficial scratch: 1500 to 2000 grit wet abrasive then polish, on site, without removal. The surface regains its original shine.

Finishes and shades

ALICE I is delivered in glossy white, the reference shade of the collection. It can also be cast in our workshop's mineral palette: sand, grey, anthracite or glossy black, and upon request in about fifteen RAL shades or in a matte finish. Shades other than white are manufactured on quote; write to us with the desired shade and we will confirm the price and lead time within 24 business hours.

To keep the edge clear, pair it with independent taps: our ISOLA (gooseneck, 114 cm) or our matte black freestanding mixer with hand shower.

On the day. The carrier calls you to schedule an appointment. The bathtub travels on a pallet and arrives by lift-gate truck, with delivery to the ground floor threshold. Plan for three people to bring it in, and check your passage dimensions before ordering.

14 days to check everything. Unpack, look. At the slightest defect, two photos and your order number to support@olverton.com: we replace the piece, round-trip transport at our expense.

Warranty and after-sales service

5 years on the tub. The warranty covers material and manufacturing defects for domestic use and maintenance with neutral soap. Accidental impacts and damage caused by abrasive or acidic products are excluded. It is in addition to the legal guarantee of conformity (2 years) and the guarantee against hidden defects.

Your questions

Can it be placed against a wall?

Technically yes, but you will no longer be able to clean behind it and you will lose its back face, finished like the others. Keep 20 cm minimum. If your room does not allow it, write to us: another model will be more appropriate.

What does the order include?

The bathtub, the chrome pop-up waste and the PVC trap. The taps are to be chosen separately from our wall-mounted or freestanding models.

Does the floor need to be drilled?

Yes for ALICE I: its base rests flat, the trap must be housed in a floor recess. It is simple on a new screed, more difficult on finished flooring. If you cannot open the floor, PIA, WIKA or ELLIPSE connect under the tub without drilling.

Can it go upstairs?

Yes in most cases: 250 kg load capacity, or ≈ 186 kg/m². On old wooden flooring or beams of unknown section, have it checked by a professional. And think about the passage of the stairs: 128 kg with three people.

The 74 cm backrest, is it high to enter?

You do not enter through the backrest but through the low side, 54 cm from the floor: it is the height of a classic bathtub. The high backrest is for leaning back, shoulders covered.

Is it really heavier than an acrylic?

Yes, and it is intentional: an acrylic freestanding tub of the same size weighs 25 to 45 kg. The 128 kg of ALICE I is the solid material that gives stability, silence and the touch of stone.

How to clean it daily?

Neutral soap, microfiber, warm water. Never bleach, descaler, vinegar, alcohol or scouring sponge.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes, in 3× interest-free with Klarna or Shop Pay, directly at the time of payment.
